Description

Intentional Integration: Lifting the level of researching, publishing, and tech skills for our students through purposeful use of technology in literacy instruction

Session Description:

Is incorporating internet searching into your reading/writing units proving to be inefficient? Do you wonder what technology skills are appropriate for your students or which skills need development throughout the year? Do you wonder how to transition your students from analog publishing to publishing across a variety of media?

This two-day workshop will equip participants with the skills to develop a progression of technology practices and competencies for reading and writing units. Participants will walk away with a distinct set of skills to enhance student publishing with a focus on incorporating elements of design into student writing pieces, publishing through alternative media, and a list of essential technology skills that underlie multimedia production. Learn how to design technology mini lessons that can be embedded into any literacy framework. This two-day workshop is intended for ES/MS teachers, curriculum leaders, and instructional and/or coaches who work closely with literacy curriculum and instruction.

Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Leave with a deeper understanding of technology skills progressions across grade levels and units of study.

  • Curate a toolkit of apps and skills to enhance student publishing

  • Develop mini lessons for the integration of technology into reading and writing units

  • Enhance their knowledge of five different domains of digital literacy including: accessing information, curation, digital note taking, collaborating and communicating in online spaces, and digital drafting.

  • Conduct video read-a-louds to enhance student media literacy.

  • Plan a unit of study incorporating digital literacy and technology skills into a reading/writing unit.
