Event description

Description

Most people think about networking as a dreadful, soul sucking exercise that requires you to attend endless events and conferences, looking for ways to deliver your “elevator pitch” to strangers who might be able to connect you to a job. But fear not! There’s a better way. Intelligent networking is about engaging effectively with who you already know to conduct a Networked Job Search. It’s about leveraging your connections to get access and introductions to those who can get you closer to your goal. In this session, we’ll introduce you to the components of a Networked Job Search that will enable you to be intentional in your career management and get closer to opportunities that are a better fit for you.

Panelists' Bio: Bryn Panee Burkhart is Senior Associate Director of Alumni Career Services at MIT Sloan School of Management. A career strategist and leadership coach, Bryn has successfully worked with hundreds of MBA students and alumni at leading graduate business schools for 17 years. Her philosophy is that everyone should have an opportunity to pursue a career path that leverages their natural strengths and gives them a sense of purpose. Bryn guides her clients to be authentic to who they are – empowering them to own their professional path, cultivate their professional brand, and confidently market their achievements.

At MIT Sloan, she provides guidance and delivers workshops related to job search strategy, resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn, intelligent networking, interviewing and salary negotiation. Bryn joined MIT in 2006 to lead the career office’s Employer Relations team. Previously, she held roles in MBA Admissions at Babson College and MBA program management at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an Ed.M in Higher Education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. She will receive her Co-Active Coaching Certification from the Coaches Training Institute in early 2019.

Registration: Alumni may bring one guest for free.

On-Campus Free Parking: Due to the never-ending construction, Sloan's Hermann Garage is only accessable via Main Street. It is a small garage without a gate, and directly under the Sloan library. Another option is the Amherst Street/E51 lot. These parking lots are free after 5pm. The closest public parking is Kendall Center Green Garage, next to the Marriott Hotel. The entrance is 90 Broadway Street. For other suggesions, click here.
