Event description

Description

Think College and the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston are thrilled to announce our partnership on the world premiere of award-winning director Dan Habib’s new film, Intelligent Lives. The film acts as a catalyst to transform the label of intellectual disability from a life sentence of isolation into a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America. We are honored to collaborate with Dan (creator of "Including Samuel") to raise awareness, engage communities, and create positive change.

Intelligent Lives follows the stories of three pioneering young adults with intellectual disabilities – Micah, Naieer, and Naomie – as they challenge perceptions of intelligence while navigating high school, college, and the workforce. Learn more about the film, connect on social media and view a clip at www.intelligentlives.org.

Please join us for a special evening at University of Massachusetts Boston that will include a pre-screening reception from 6-7 pm with light snacks, conversation with the film's producers, director and stars, and information on current research and practice from Think College, ThinkWork!, and other projects of the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston. Screening of the full film will begin at 7 pm, and will be folllowed by a post-viewing panel discussion and audience Q & A, featuring the filmmaker and stars.

It is intended to challenge and inspire all who see it to think deeply about how narrow definitions of intelligence have impacted our society.
