Intelligent Lives Screening
Event Information
Description
Please join the Arlington High School Reach Program and Special Education Department, Arlington Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC), and the LABBB Educational Collaborative for a FREE screening of the documentary "Intelligent Lives" on Monday, March 9, 2020, at the Arlington High School Auditorium.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion related to inclusion and transition. Panelists will include an Arlington High School student and their parent, an educator from the LABBB Collaborative, and the sister of one of the young people featured in the documentary.
Every person has the right to pursue an education and career and to be fully included as a member of society. Too often there are people who are not given the support they need to make these things a reality, particularly young people with intellectual disabilities. "Intelligent Lives," the latest project from disability rights filmmaker Dan Habib ("Including Samuel" and "Mr. Connolly has ALS"), shows examples of young people who are included in higher education and the job market and discusses some of the challenges they face as they transition to life outside of the public education system. Help us to break stereotypes about what it means to be "intelligent" and to push for more inclusive education and employment!
This event is designed to be accessible for all and there will be a sensory break space available if needed. When reserving a ticket, there is a section for questions about accommodations and access. Please do not hesitate to ask!
