Arts integration is an approach to teaching that integrates the fine and performing arts as a pathways to learning. In fact, according to the American Associate of Educations, curriculum rich in arts not only increases engagement and motivation, it also has been linked to increased achievement and retention. In this workshop Suzanne Thomas, Tracey Gregg-Boothby, and Howard Koerth will guide participants in exploring the possibilities of using the arts within a variety academic disciplines. During the hands-on session, participants will collaborate to create assignments that will incorporate the fine arts.
In order to gain the maximum benefit from the workshop, participants should prepare for the workshop by identifying at least one lesson/assignment that could be enhanced with arts integration...such as vocal music, theatre, 2-D art, photography, ceramics, and art history.
