Event description

Description

A workshop designed for board members, stewardship & finance committees, religious professionals, and new leaders who want to align their efforts to spark the generous gifts of their community to bless the world.

PRESENTERS:

Mark Ewert, Congregational Stewardship Consultant, Stewardship For Us Team

Elizabeth Ann Terry, UUA Congregational Giving Specialist

Joe Sullivan, New England Region UUA

Congregational leaders tend to describe their challenges and circumstances in terms of deficiencies – not enough volunteers, young people and families, diversity, money. Perhaps our approaches to stewardship inhibit us from seeing opportunities and resources that are all around us. This workshop will explore the Who, How, and Why of creating better stewardship programs, informed by our Unitarian Universalist Principles and values, our religious purpose, and our congregational visions.

Join us for this engaging workshop. Together we will:

  • Explore values- and faith-aligned stewardship practices, including multicultural engagement and equity-based systems
  • Consider practices of stewardship grounded in confidence that enough is available to us, and that all have gifts to contribute and yearning to make a difference
  • Identify strategies for aligning congregational ministries and systems in support of new stewardship practices

This is a team-based workshop, as we will work on alignment around stewardship systems and leveraging our rich human resources. We encourage, in addition to the stewardship committee members, that board members, religious professionals, finance, and membership folks attend together. In fact, if you have new staff or potential lay leaders this would be a great opportunity for them.

LOCATION: First Parish in Milton UU, at 535 Canton Ave, Milton, MA 02186

Her work with the Annual Program Fund of the UUA connects her with UU congregations in every Region. She has been a witness to congregations that utilize the spiritual practices of covenant and abundance to move their congregations into bright and purposeful futures. Elizabeth is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Wilmington, North Carolina and a Board Member of Forward Together, the Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry of North Carolina.

REGISTRATION FEE:

  • $50 per person when you register 2-3 from your congregation
  • $30 per person when you register 4 or more from your congregation

As learning takes root more effectively when four or more people from the same religious communities attend, you are encouraged to attend this workshop as a team.

While we know that not all individuals are in a position to pay these fees, since the learning is on behalf of the congregation, we assume that congregations will select and financially support participants who come. However, if these fees are prohibitive even to the congregation, please contact us at newengland@uua.org. We do not want cost to keep anyone away.

NOTE TO ALL ATTENDEES: Please bring your own bag lunch. Morning refreshments, drinks and afternoon snacks will be provided.

REGISTRATION CLOSES: Friday, March 1, or maximum capacity.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS:

  • If you or a teammate needs to cancel a registration before the event, please contact us as early as possible, by one week before the event at the latest, and a refund will be provided less a $5.00 administrative fee. Within one week of the event refunds less a $5.00 administrative fee will only be given in the case of illness or emergency. Refunds will not be available after the event for non attendance. We ask for your understanding in respecting this policy, which supports our organizational efforts and expenses.
