Description

June 25th 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

June 26th 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

We are excited to share this literacy based workshop with you that focuses on upper elementary and middle school Social Studies. Teachers will learn reading in the content area research based strategies for instruction, brain based and culturally responsive teaching methods for the social studies classroom. Moving beyond the oft-cited "every teacher a teacher of reading" philosophy that has historically frustrated content-area teachers, we will share our best research based comprehension strategies, and subsequently how to teach those strategies to adolescent readers. Boost your students' ability to comprehend informational texts and apply knowledge to Project Based Learning.

This workshop will span two days for a total of 10 literacy contact hours for 1 full CEU. Bring a digital device and a bagged lunch.

We will provide a light breakfast and plenty of coffee to get you started. Dress casually and be ready to actively participate in quality lesson planning for the upcoming school year. You will leave with a scope and sequence for next year for your specific grade level as well as multiple lesson plans including ideas for PBL in your classroom.
