Designing Products (for Social Good)

Nate Kerksick, Design Director, Change.org

Nate is the Design Director at Change.org, where he leads a talented team who work to make modern social change more practical and accessible. He designed and developed his first commercial site in 1998 (elements of which are regrettably still live.) After opening a design studio in 2003, Nate went on to design Obama ’08s best performing web ads; lead the redesign of Mightybell’s human-centered UX, and the rebrand of Change.org. Insatiably curious, he has lived in seven cities, and calls San Francisco home. He holds a degree in Interactive Art Direction from Hyper Island in Sweden.

The Role of Compassion in Alleviating Poverty

Sammie Rayner, Partnerships and Strategy, HandUp

Sammie leads business development and partnerships for HandUp - both on the corporate giving and nonprofit side of things - as well as company operations. Before joining HandUp, Sammie founded and served as Executive Director for Lumana, a microfinance organization in West Africa. Sammie is passionate about market-based solutions to poverty and excited to bring her experience internationally to tackle urban poverty in the U.S.

Redefining Entrepreneuers Network of Support Through Compassionate Tech

Justin Renfro, US Program Manager, Kiva Zip

Justin Renfro is the Program Manager for the Zip program in the United States.Kiva Zip provides 0% interest loans to financially excluded and socially impactful entrepreneurs around the country and over the past three years at Kiva he's helped fund over 1,000 entrepreneurs and established partnerships with over 500 organizations that use Kiva Zip as a resource for small businesses in their community. With the mantra of "Stay Positive", Justin prides himself on being a good person and force for good in the world.
