Description

Open Source Software’s characteristics, goals, and problems will be discussed. This will be along with open source licenses, license compatibility, audits and corporate policy, enforcement issues and remedies.

There are various treatment of patent, trade secret, and copyright protection for open source software, including business considerations and recent developments for open source software. The technical focus includes electronics, automotive technology, computer hardware and software, communications, optical systems, and mechanical devices.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Lester Vincent is a registered patent attorney based in Silicon Valley, and partner of the High Tech Patent Practice from Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP. They are an Intellectual Property Practice and law firm. He was named an IP Star from 2014 to 2018 by the Managing Intellectual Property Guide.

He handles copyright and open source issues, including patent prosecution, licensing, due diligence work, opinions. The latter includes validity, infringement, patentability, right-to-practice (RTP), and freedom-to-operate (FTO) opinions. Other IP work includes counseling, offensive and defensive patent issues, and litigation.

Mr. Vincent graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He has a Juris Doctor degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the California, New York, Massachusetts, and District of Columbia bars.
