Description

Insights from applying ACT to kids, teenagers and adults with John Boorman - Are we all just big kids?

With Dr. John Boorman

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for children and young people is an approach that has been gaining increasing popularity within the fields of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Education and Physical Health. This seminar will provide an overview of the current literature using ACT in this area, illustrate how a developmental approach is used within this framework, and provide examples of how to practice ACT interventions with children, young people and their families. The talk will draw from clinical case examples from John’s clinical work to demonstrate how to use ACT approaches to formulate, assess and treat children and families.

John is a Senior Clinical Psychologist for Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust and co-director of Greenheart Psychological Services, an ACT and contextual based therapy provider. He is also Visiting Lecturer in the University of Hertfordshire’s Clinical Psychology Department. John regularly delivers ACT training for a range of NHS, University and private organisations. He is currently on the committee board for the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) ACT Special Interest Group, which promotes the dissemination and training of ACT throughout the UK. His research interests include using ACT and contextual behavioural approaches with children, young people and their families.
