Description

Every day, exceptional people are living significant lives. Inside The Mind exists to delve into their minds and discover what makes them tick.

About:

Join us at the inaugural Inside The Mind business breakfast series event as social entrepreneur Derek Handley leads us on a journey Inside The Minds of exceptional Kiwis striving to inspire greater social consciousness in New Zealand businesses.

We’re excited to welcome our very first keynote speaker Dr Michelle Dickinson (a.k.a. Nanogirl) to Inside The Mind to discuss the responsibility we all have to empower and inspire the next generation of exceptional women.

In the lead in to International Women’s Day (March 8), Inside The Mind encourages all attendees to bring an exceptional young woman, maybe a mentee or promising employee, with you to allow them to hear Dr Michelle’s powerful story and to be inspired to go on and lead the next generation of exceptional women.

Keynote Speaker: Dr Michelle Dickinson (a.k.a. Nanogirl)

Inside The Mind is proud to announce the keynote speaker for our inaugural Inside The Mind business breakfast event; Doctor Michelle Dickinson, MNZM.

Celebrity scientist, Auckland University researcher and lecturer, OMGtech founder, media personality, NZ Herald columnist, Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, TEDx speaker, feminist, superhero. Hell of a CV.

Dr Michelle Dickinson, also known by her ‘Nanogirl’ alter-ego, is on a mission to inspire our next generation of exceptional women and to make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) accessible to all.

Born in the UK, Dr Michelle gained her PhD in Biomedical Materials Engineering from Rutgers University in the United States and, in 2009, immigrated to New Zealand to assume a position lecturing and researching at Auckland University.

In 2012, a TEDx spotter stumbled upon Michelle’s Twitter account and invited her to speak at a TEDxAuckland event. A video of her talk went viral and, from there, Michelle has carved out a unique career as a ‘celebrity scientist’.

She’s passionate about promoting female involvement in the traditionally male-dominated STEM industries, calling out the stereotypes that discourage young girls and minorities and highlighting the ways poorer people are shut out of education.

We’re proud to welcome Dr Michelle to Inside The Mind as our very first keynote speaker where she will share her story; the challenges she faced, particularly as a female in a male-dominated industry, how she overcame those challenges and the importance of empowering women, not just in STEM, but in all aspects of life and the powerful impact that can come from this.

Join us as we delve Inside The Mind of Dr Michelle Dickinson.
