Description

Join us for a Q&A with Lauren-Brooke Eisen, senior counsel in the Justice Program at the Brennan Center for Justice at the NYU School of Law, on her newly published book from Columbia University Press, Inside Private Prisons: An American Dilemma in the Age of Mass Incarceration.

Book author and journalist Eyal Press, a contributor to the New Yorker, the New York Times, and many other publications, will interview Eisen.

As senior counsel in the Brennan Center’s Justice Program at the NYU School of Law, Eisen focuses on changing financial incentives in the criminal-justice system. Previously she was a senior program associate at the Vera Institute of Justice in the Center on Sentencing and Corrections, served as an assistant district attorney in New York City, and taught criminal justice at Yale College and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

A past recipient of the James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism, Eyal Press is the author of Beautiful Souls, an exploration of what animates individual acts of courage and conscience in dangerous circumstances, and Absolute Convictions, a narrative account of the abortion wars that racked the city of Buffalo, NY, and the medical practice of his father. He is currently a fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library.

Stephen Wise Free Synagogue’s Wise Authors series showcases Stephen Wise members who have recently published influential books. Each event features a formal Q&A with the author followed by an opportunity to discuss their book.
