Event description
An in-depth journey into internet vulnerabilities: details of the DNS protocol, techniques to attack the DNS system and so on. Join us!

About this Event

What if you were told that when you surf to your favorite websites or read your emails, someone might be reading all of your traffic? Perhaps when you surf to www.gmail.com, you might be accessing an attacker’s replica of the service you have requested?

The DNS protocol is the internet's phonebook. When we surf to a website, we usually use its domain name (ex: www.gmail.com), but our machine actually goes through a resolving process, mapping the name to an IP address.

DNS has been of interest for many hackers over the years. If an attacker can make our machine "believe" that a certain domain name maps to his or her IP address, a whole lot of things can happen. With recent attacks ranging from massive cryptocurrency hijacking to nation state funded attacks, DNS attacks can have critical consequences.

_____

In this technical talk, we will dive into the details of the DNS protocol, cover various techniques to attack the DNS system, and consider possible mitigations. We will also briefly discuss the way we train Cyber Security Fellows at Israel Tech Challenge, based on IDF’s methods.
