Teachers’ Democracy Project invites you to a forum on Baltimore City Schools discipline policy.
Tues. Dec. 6, 2016
235 Holliday St. (Real News building) The Living Well/Second floor
The Discipline Policy is currently under review by the school board and they are seeking input. Teachers and parents are talking about what the new discipline rules mean for their students. Some people are concerned about how schools lower their suspension numbers by sending students home informally. Do students and parents know their rights? Others are more focused on pushing for restorative practices and trauma informed interventions to replace suspensions. Others are concerned that restorative practices are done so poorly in their schools that the whole concept becomes just another failed mandate. How could this policy create a more functional system?
