Description

Course Background

The issues of corruption and fraud, rule of law, good governance, transparency and accountability, sustainable pro-poor, needy, vulnerable, deprived and marginalized development, peace and security are intrinsically intertwined, same way that poverty deprivation and under development challenges affect the people in diverse ways. These are multifaceted civil, public, corporate and private sector problems hampering social, economic, humanitarian, democratic and political development, a bad situation, which has become a dent on the conscience of many individuals, groups, institutions, organizations and communities around the world.

It is therefore important to extend the needed attention to such corrupt and fraud practices, transparency, accountability, good governance and rule of law violations affecting human development, and gains made by groups, agencies, institutions and organizations.

Sadly, and particularly, in the context of Africa and other third world regions, traditional forms of interventions, policies, actions and/or agitations against corruption and fraud, accountability, rule of law, transparency and good governance violations such as lame duck laws, sanctions, radio and TV discussions, passive political or public statements and lamentations, street protest or demonstrations and even violent military coups, interventions and/or overthrow of governments have woefully failed to achieve the desired results.

This invariably, calls for a paradigm shift to an innovative, high leverage, holistic and applicable strategies amplified by a grassroots radical and fundamental change in attitudes facilitated by constant and consistent engagement, empowerment and systematic training and capacity building at the broad base grassroots, bottom of the societal pyramid to acquire the rightful knowledge, skill sets and self-confidence to fight corruption and fraud, transparency, accountability, good governance and rule of law violations.

At the interface between the bottom of the societal pyramid, grassroots level, ordinary citizens, students, early to mid-term professionals, lower ranked civil, public, corporate and private sector leadership, officials and personnel, the international course on “Innovative, High Leverage and Applicable Strategies for Ameliorating Corruption and Fraud (IHLASACF),” provides a formidable platform for constant and consistent engagement, empowerment and systematic development of the rightful skills, knowledge, capabilities and self-confidence relative to corruption and fraud, accountability, transparency, rule of law and good governance violations prevention and/or remedies through non-formal education.
