Description

The workshop will introduce the core concepts in CRAFT as well as complimentary methods of engaging families in conceptualizing their own recovery from painful family dynamics common to families touched by addiction. Community Reinforcement and Family Training is an evidence based counseling method for working with the families of treatment refusing addicted people.

Course Agenda:

1. Overview of common family dynamics in families with an addicted family member
2. Introduction to a strength-based view of families often labeled as “co-dependent”
3. Discussion of the meaning of “boundaries,” including connecting theory and practice in helping families develop boundaries that are personal, clear and appropriately flexible
4. Introduction to the use of reinforcement and natural consequences
5. Introduction to the use of the CRAFT positive communication skill
6. Discussion of best practices for addiction treatment for the addicted family member and how to help families navigate to the right addiction services

This Program has been approved for 5 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work.
