Event description

Description

Many hard-charging professionals pride themselves on their ability to work long hours and get by on 5 or 6 hours of sleep. But the truth is that they’re shortchanging themselves. Sleep isn't a luxury. It’s a necessity for optimal functioning and optimally your brain needs 7 to 8 hours of sleep. When you sleep, your brain catalogs the previous day’s experiences, primes your memory, and triggers the release of hormones regulating energy, mood, and mental acuity. When it gets less, your concentration, creativity, mood regulation, and productivity all take a hit.

Shay will expose you to the world of sleep medicine through narcolespy, a fascinating disease that the company he works at, Jazz, has treatments for. Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder affecting the part of your brain that regulates sleep. As a result, you can experience excessive daytime sleepiness and a sudden loss of muscle control (called cataplexy) causing you to fall asleep during normal daytime activities. Shay will share more about the causes of narcolepsy, its diagnosis and its treatments.

Shay Bujanover, MD, MBA is an Executive Director, Medical Affairs at Jazz Pharmaceutical where for the last 3.5 years he has managed and overseen the medical affairs activities of the company's sleep and neurology products portfolio. During his time at Jazz he has led multiple initiatives supporting disease awareness education and new product launches. Prior to joining Jazz Shay led a medical affairs department at Depomed, a specialty pharma company focused on pain and neurology, where he built a medical affairs department and supported the launch of numerous products. Shay started his healthcare industry career at Medtronic, a Fortune 500 medical device company, where he held roles of increasing responsibility in the US and in Israel. Over the past 13 years in industry, Shay has been involved in a wide array of activities including acquisitions, divestitures, market assessments, new product planning, medical education, team building, strategic planning and operational excellence.

Shay received his MD degree from Sackler Medical School, Tel-Aviv University and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Prior to joining industry Shay was an orthopedic surgery resident at Tel Aviv Medical Center.
