Inland STORMTOOLS - 12/15 webinar on project progress
By Rhode Island Sea Grant
Online event
Overview
Learn about our work at URI to develop Inland STORMTOOLS, seamless flood risk mapping tool for coastal and inland waters of RI
Our project goals include:
- Developing and incorporating watershed models to predict the effects of the recent increase in extreme precipitation and sea-level rise on flood risk and flood-insurance maps
- Leveraging existing STORMTOOLS initiatives to create a seamless flood risk assessment tool that supports flood preparedness and mitigation in Rhode Island, considering future changes in precipitation and sea level rise.
- Disseminating the results to permitting agencies and Rhode Island communities.
For those new to this initiative or seeking a refresher, please visit our project page: Inland STORMTOOLS.
During the meeting, we will share progress from the past year, including:
- Collection of geospatial and hydrometeorological data for Wood River, Pawcatuck River, Chipuxet River, Ten Mile River, West River, and Pawtuxet River.
- Improvements to and validation of hydrological and hydraulic models for these rivers.
- Development of flood maps based on precipitation change scenarios and comparisons with FEMA flooding maps.
- Group discussion of your input on the user interface and applications of the data in your work.
Brief progress updates on related efforts:
- 500 yr with sea level rise flooding maps for the state
- STORMTOOLS wind damage maps for the state
- New project to inland and coastal flooding in real-time storm forecasts
We hope you can join us for this important discussion. Please feel free to forward this invitation to your colleagues. We will be circulating a meeting recording for those who are are unable to join the meeting live. Please reach out with any questions in the meantime.
