Description

Inland Empire’s Ultimate Doundounba Festival is an exciting weekend of workshops in West African Drum and Dance, a showcase, and an invitational competition. This event includes free traditional and contemporary fine arts performances, workshops, classes, access to an African Marketplace and more! For our second annual festival we will have Master Jali, Solo Soro, teaching a balafone class. Master Dancer and Founder of KanKouran West African Dance Company, Baba Assane Konte, coming from Washington D.C. to do a seminar. We have also added a screening/talk with Joyce Guy and her independent documentary, "Dancing Like Home", which highlights her journey to West Africa to pursue the meanings of the traditional dance ceremonies of Casamance, Senegal. Other classes include instruction from 2018 African Dance LA winners, Jahanna Blunt and Kwasi Williams of Ballet Dembaya, and Master Dancer Babacar Ndiaye who teaches at Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles.
