Event description

Description

The Philadelphia OST Literacy Initiative (POSTLI) provides workshops that demonstrate how OST staff can easily infuse high impact literacy strategies into their work with youth. Using the Youth Education for Tomorrow (YET) model, participants will understand the importance of demonstrating and supporting strategies that good readers and writers use in grades K-5 within the context of the topics and activities used by their organization or own design. Participants explore what literacy practices they currently use, examine their own relationship to literacy, review research and best practices, connect to local resources, and plan how they will use this information. Participants review the Big Five of Reading: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension. Interactive Read Aloud, Writing, Accountable Discussion, Reading Games, and Independent Reading are presented.
