Informed, Not Imposed: Reclaiming Consent After Trauma
This study day brings together healthcare professionals, students, and birth workers to explore the critical role of informed consent in maternity care, particularly through the lens of trauma and the lived experiences of Black, Black Mixed Heritage and Global Majority women.
Hosted by Mama's Embrace and ARU Peterborough, the day will feature a combination of insightful presentations, guest speakers, interactive workshops, and open discussions designed to challenge assumptions, deepen understanding, and promote compassionate, trauma-informed practice.
Together, we will reflect on how consent is offered, received, and respected in clinical settings—shifting from transactional approaches to ones rooted in autonomy, empathy, and cultural awareness.
Whether you are a midwife, student, obstetrician, doula or birth worker, this day offers a welcoming and reflective space to learn, connect, and commit to more equitable, respectful care.
