On April 24, dedicate your lunch hour to the city.
Join Indy’s university students and young professionals to advocate for mass transit on April 24th at the Statehouse from 11am to 12pm. First, various speakers will articulate why they have made Indianapolis their home and what they envision for the city’s future. Then, rally attendees will work together to create an innovative, collaborative art piece—in 45 minutes, on the floor of the North Atrium of the Statehouse—putting our voices on display for Indiana legislators.
Event partners Big Car and the Herron School of Art and Design’s Active Student Artists will help to direct artistic energy as participants map their daily commutes with string on a large grid of the existing bus system. At the conclusion of the project, this brightly colored network will reveal the disconnect between the current system and our transportation needs. We will then display the piece in a public exhibit, inviting those who view the artwork to contribute by mapping their own commutes in string.
As Indy’s students and youngest professionals, we recognize that the city’s future is our future. We need your voice. An improved transit system—and a more vibrant, interconnected community—are within reach, but only if you show up to hold your legislators accountable. On April 24, join us in urging legislators to put mass transit on the ballot.
