We take a closer look at three industries undergoing explosive development

About this event

About the Post-Industrial Forum

Operated by the Post-Industrial Institute in collaboration with industry partners, the Post-Industrial Forum focuses on how to navigate the transition to a decentralized post-industrial economy and culture.

Members include policymakers, investors, founders, and senior executives. After two years of Covid restrictions and online-only events, we are excited to welcome you back in person.

Industries of Tomorrow: Space, Manufacturing, and Biotechnology

In this session we will look at three industries that will be revolutionized over the next decade — Space, Manufacturing, and Biotechnology. These industries are interesting because their impact on human life and economic development will be so fundamental, and their progress is powered by the rapid development a number of “building block” technologies.

We will discuss:

  • Technologies driving (or holding back) progress in these industries
  • How these industries will reshape how we live and work
  • Geopolitical and cultural implications
  • Obstacles that must be overcome to ensure progress
  • Growth prospects and investment opportunities

Bruze Pittman, VP of Development, Skycorp; Chief Systems Engineer, NASA Space Portal

Bruce Pittman has deep background in space and engineering. He served as a research scientist at NASA, where he was awarded the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal. He is the former Chief System Engineer at the NASA Space Portal at the Ames Research Center. Bruce is a member of the adjunct faculty at Santa Clara University in the Graduate Engineering School and has provided technical training and consulting services to Fortune 500 companies and government agencies, including NASA and DOE. He has helped found several high tech companies including SpaceHab, Kistler Aerospace and Prometheus II.

Chris Cowart, Managing Director, Nomura-SRI Innovation Center

Chris Cowart serves as the managing director for the Nomura-SRI Innovation Center (NSIC) and is responsible for its operations, creating program content, forming partnerships and working with the member companies. He focuses on deeply exploring, and building value frameworks and commercial strategies for fields without predicates, ranging from robotics and space, to biotechnology and emerging computational paradigms. A bioengineering Ph.D. by training, Amit has substantial research and engineering experience in ultrasound therapeutics, robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgical systems, as well as orthotics and prosthetics. He spent five-years as a growth-stage technology investor after running a translational medical innovation program chartered by the UCLA Health System, and starting a company bringing AR to interventional medicine. At SRI he focuses on the commercial translation of emerging technologies through the Global Partnerships and Ventures teams.
