Washington State has finally passed industrial hemp legislation ~ now what? Let’s learn how to farm it, and farm it right! Attendees will join Washington’s own industrial hemp specialist Joy Beckerman of Hemp Ace International for the presentation "Industrial Hemp Farming Basics" along with an update on Washington’s new hemp law and the current creation of Washington’s hemp program by the State Department of Agriculture. Joining remotely from Canada for the Q&A session will be internationally renowned industrial hemp agrologist and hemp industries leader Anndrea Hermann, M.Sc, B.GS, P.Ag.
ABOUT JOY BECKERMAN: Joy is the Principal Industrial Hemp Specialist at Hemp Ace International, a Seattle-based global industrial hemp advisory, educational, and brokerage firm. After opening the first hemp store in New York in the early 1990’s, Joy served as Secretary to the Vermont Hemp Council upon passage of the first Vermont hemp bill in 1996. She then commenced an extensive dual career as a compliance and complex civil litigation paralegal, supporting some of Seattle’s most distinguished legal counsel. Joy’s earth healing purpose has also led her to permaculture with focuses on regenerative agriculture, sustainable building, and social systems. Joy is an internationally respected voice and public speaker who has presented at continuing legal education seminars and numerous universities, conferences, and panels over the last nearly quarter of a century. Working directly with lawmakers and regulators, Joy assists with bill drafting and policymaking upon request and as a grassroots activist. She is also a Hempcrete Workshop Instructor for Hemp Technologies, builders of the first permitted hempcrete homes in the U.S. Joy is the recipient of the Hemp Industries Association 2014 National Hemp Activist of the Year Award and Seattle Hempfest’s 2016 Regional Cannabis Activist of the Year Award. ABOUT ANNDREA HERMANN, M.Sc, B.GS, P.Ag.: Anndrea, an internationally renowned American based in Canada since the early 2000’s, is the Principal of The Ridge International Cannabis Consulting, President of Hemp Technologies (builders of the first permitted hempcrete homes in the U.S.) and Sales & Business Development Officer for Hemp Production Services. Anndrea is also the instructor of the world's first college course on industrial hemp, via Oregon State University's eCampus course WSE266 Industrial Hemp. She is a Health Canada Authorized Hemp THC Sampler who has advised Health Canada on a wide spectrum of Cannabis projects from 2005 to the present. Anndrea is the Vice President of the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance, and is a Board Member and the former President of the U.S. Hemp Industries Association. Most significantly, Anndrea has assisted with creating and reviewing hemp regulations in Canada, the European Union, South Africa, Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, India, Vermont, Virginia, Tennessee, North Dakota, Missouri, Colorado, California, Oregon and Michigan, for example. These regulations govern the hemp industry.
