About this event

We are celebrating our featured guest this month, the renowned Indra Adnan, Founder and Co-initator of The Alternative Global. A socio-political platform serving systemic transformation, AltGlobal publishes a Daily Alternative news blog, develops cosmolocal agency networks (CANs) and connects planetary regeneration projects.

Concurrently, Indra is a socio-psychotherapist, writer and consultant on soft power. Clients have included the Danish and Brazilian governments, World Economic Forum and NATO. Her book The Politics of Waking Up: Power and Possibility in the Fractal Age was a Times Literary Supplement Book of the Year in 2021.

For some time now, Indra and her collaborators with the Alternative UK (and now Alternative Global) have been pursuing a particular inquiry: “If politics is broken… what is the Alternative?”

Exploring the answers to this question has led Indra and others to focus on catalyzing Community Agency Networks (CANs) in different parts of the UK, in the spirit of similar efforts emerging throughout the world.

CANs, or place-based community action networks, bring people from local communities together across their differences. Participants include those committed to community organizing as well as those who have been traditionally excluded or disinterested; the intention being to cooperate and collaborate in ways that create change for people and planet.

In this session, we'll be interviewing Indra about her framework for developing CANS and the lessons she has learned along the way, as a systems convenor. We'll also be exploring the most recent developments in this work, which involve launching 4 incubators:

· Future Being - who do we need to be, to bring this new future into being? Identifying the personal practices that support our wholistic development;

· CANS of CANS – growing our ecocivilisation by bringing together networks of CANs, where each of us act cosmolocally in the interests of planetary well-being, focusing on the physical infrastructure of our food, work, and basic necessities;

· News from Planet A - sharing the regenerative culture that is emerging, through a new media system;

· A New Political System - a new structure for individual and collective agency is coming into being through relational technologies. The work here involves generating a parallel polis, and then discerning what its relation will be, to the current system of power.

Format

CII's Real World Co-Intelligence calls offer a participatory learning community format. They are also recorded so we can share our learnings with others.

In each call, we include a section where we offer some explicit connections between the practice we are exploring, and the patterns and principles of co-intelligence and wise democracy. More details on the format are in "additional resources" section below.

Flow for this call

After some opening remarks, we will be interviewing our featured guest, Indra Adnan.

Then we'll be hearing from Tom Atlee on the co-intelligence and Wise Democracy patterns that he sees manifesting in this project.

This will be followed by breakout groups where participants can develop the comments, questions, and insights they'd like to share with the larger group.

Once back in the large group, participants will have the opportunity to share out. Our guest presenter will have the opportunity to hear from participants, and respond to questions, comments, and insights.

NOTE: After the end of this call, there will be another half hour conversation for those who wish to stay longer.
