This class is designed for runners who would like to keep their winter workouts fresh and increase their speed and strength by doing some specific speed workouts in the winter. This class will also help you better understand how to use your heart rate monitor. We will cover stretches for runners but also incorporate foam rollers, stretching straps, and other important training aids for runners. A short component of each class will be devoted to strength training for runners. We will demonstrate various exercises using a large array of supplied equipment, allowing you to gain experience using them. The spirit of this class is not only to give you a good speed workout but also to provide practical tools and knowledge to keep your winter training fresh and focused while building strength and speed for the spring running season.
Class #1 - Friday, November 30th - 5:00pm to 6:15pm
Class #2 - Friday, December 7th - 5:00pm to 6:15pm
Class #3 - Friday, December 14th - 5:00pm to 6:15pm
Class #4 - Friday, December 21st - 5:00pm to 6:15pm
SAMPLE CLASS CONTENT:
- 1 mile warm up
- 10-15 minutes of stretches both active and static
- 30-45 minutes of core workout….i.e. 1/4, 1/2, 1 mile and ladder type workouts with a heart rate component
- 1 mile cool-down
- 10-20 minutes of strength exercises for runners and stretching (both active and static)
Who will be leading the workout?
Tom Dvoratchek is a multi-sport athlete and coach. He owns Body Physics, a personal training and endurance coaching business. He has been serving the North shore for nearly 20 years and works with athletes of all ages from elite to the fitness enthusiast. He runs indoor, science-based cycling classes similar to this one every winter. He has been coaching the Alpine runners summer track workouts for the last few years. This class is a “hands on” version of what he has offered online for runners, triathletes and fitness enthusiasts for the past few winters.
