Check-In -

  • There will be a table to check in inside the gym doors. At check-in you will receive your VASA t-shirt and will have your race number written on your arm and leg.

Disclaimer -

  • VASA is not responsible for the loss of your personal items. If you are concerned for the safety of your things, please bring a lock and store your personal items in a locker.

What to Wear

  • It is easiest to wear a fitted swimsuit with running/biking attire over top. There will be locker rooms to change in if you do not want to layer your clothing.

  • You will also want to bring comfortable socks and shoes for running and biking. The same shoes can be worn for both portions of the race.

What to Bring

  • Water Bottle

    • Drinking fountains are available to re-fill your bottle

  • Towel

  • Swim Cap/Goggles

  • Swimming Suit

  • Running Shoes/Socks

  • Bag to hold your items

  • Running/Biking clothing

Swimming - 200 YDS

  • Swimming is the first leg of your mini triathlon. You are expected to be ready and in the water by the time your heat is supposed to begin. Late arrival may mean that your race time is not eligible to place in the top 3 winners.

  • Participants will be splitting a lane with another swimmer. Please use the mid-line on the pool bottom to stay on your side of the lane at all times.

  • There is a 10 minute time-cap on the swimming portion of the mini triathlon. If you do not complete your 200 yards within 10 minutes you will be stopped and a “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

Biking - 6 MILES

  • There will be both upright and recumbent bikes used during the mini triathlon. Bikes will be assigned by VASA Corporate Wellness team members as participants transition to the second portion of the race.

  • We encourage participants to practice using both types of indoor bikes in order to become comfortable using either mode on race day.

  • Making sure there is some amount of resistance on the pedals while biking can actually be to your advantage as you will waste less energy. Bringing up the resistance to very high levels will increase the intensity of your workout, but will not influence the way VASA keeps track of time. You may increase your intensity as high as you feel is safe, but it may be a disadvantage to your completion time.

  • If you need to use the restroom during your ride, please alert a VASA Corporate Wellness team member so they can note your distance before you stop pedaling. If you stop pedaling before alerting a team member your distance may be lost and you will have to begin again.

  • There is a 35 minute time cap on the biking portion of the mini triathlon. If you do not complete your 6 miles within 35 minutes you will be stopped and a “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

Running - 1.5 MILES

  • Your run for the mini triathlon will happen on a treadmill. We encourage you to practice running on one before your race so that you can feel safe and comfortable.

  • Increasing the incline of your treadmill on race day will increase the intensity of your workout, but will not influence the way VASA keeps track of time. You may increase your incline, but it may be a disadvantage to your completion time.

  • If you need to use the restroom during your run, please alert a VASA Corporate Wellness team member so they can note your distance before you stop your treadmill. If you stop your treadmill before alerting a team member your distance may be lost and you will have to begin again.

  • If you need to slow down during your run, bring the speed down but do not stop the belt or jump off the belt while it is still moving. If you do step off the belt to rest while it is still moving, a VASA staff member will ask you to step back on and a 15 second penalty will be added to your finishing time.

  • There is a 25 minute time cap on the running portion of the mini triathlon. If you do not complete your 1.5 miles within 25 minutes you will be stopped and a “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

Transitions

  • Transitions are included in the time for you to complete the race. You will be able to leave your towel and running/biking clothing by the pool for your transition to the bike if you are simply drying off and putting clothes over your swimsuit.

  • If you would like more privacy to change, you can use the locker rooms.

  • All participants MUST bring a towel and completely dry off before transitioning to the bikes.

Timing

  • All transitions and bathroom breaks are included in your total time to finish the race. The clock begins at the start of your swim (time assigned upon registration) and stops when you finish your run.

  • The times recorded for the race will be:

    • Start and stop time for swimming 200 yards

    • Time upon completing the 6 mile bike ride

    • Time upon completing the 1.5 mile run

  • The VASA team will be tracking your time for the competition. All times will be recorded in the same way to ensure equal opportunity to place. If you would like more detailed times for your swim, bike and run, we encourage you to use your own timer or fitness device and track your time on your own. Time tracked individually will not change timekeeping by the VASA team.

Time Caps

  • Swim: There is a 10 minute time cap on the swimming portion. If you do not complete your 200 yard swim within 10 minutes you will be stopped and directed to the bikes for the next leg of your race. A “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

  • Bike: There is a 35 minute time cap on the biking portion. If you do not complete your 6 miles within 35 minutes you will be stopped and directed to the treadmill for the next leg of your race. A “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

  • Run: There is a 25 minute time cap on the running portion. If you do not complete your 1.5 miles within 25 minutes you will be stopped and your finish time will be recorded at that point. A “DNF” or “Did Not Finish” will be noted on your time.

Finishing Time

  • The VASA Corporate Wellness team will be tracking your time from the beginning to the end of the race.

Bathroom/Water Breaks

  • Bathroom and water-drinking breaks will be added to your overall time to complete the mini triathlon.

  • If you do have to use the bathroom during one of the legs, please alert one of the VASA Corporate Wellness team members
