Indigo Dye + Shibori Workshop @ Miel Brewery + Taproom
Event Information
About this event
Join local artist Megan Jewel for an Indigo Dye + Shibori Workshop at Miel Brewery + Taproom on Sunday October 24th! Attendees will create their own beautiful hand-dyed textiles during this workshop as Megan teaches the basics of creating shibori patterns with indigo dye.
This event will take place outdoors at Miel Brewery + Taproom. During the workshop, each attendee will be provided 2 tea towels and 1 silk scarf to dye. You may bring an item of your own to dye if time allows (natural fiber such as cotton or rayon is best). Please do not bring large fabric items like sheets, duvets, or fabric yardage. Please wear clothing and footwear that you don't mind getting messy. Please bring a plastic bag or ziplock bag to take your dyed items home in.
As a reminder, all guests over the age of 12 who come to Miel must show proof of vaccine or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours. We will accept original vaccine cards, the LA Wallet app, or high-resolution photos of both sides of your vaccine card as proof of vaccination. Physical copies or a photo of a negative PCR test will also be accepted.
Ages 12+. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Each must have their own ticket.
If you are unable to make the event, your ticket may be transferred to another person for this date only. Tickets are non-refundable. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be rescheduled and tickets will be transferred to the rain date.
Shibori is a Japanese term for manual-resist methods used to create patterns on fabric. We will explore techniques using folding, pleating, and binding to create patterns on the provided textiles. Each piece will be dyed in the indigo vat, which produces a bold or subtle blue and white pattern, depending on the material and method used. Because of the handmade and experimental nature of indigo dyeing, results may vary between attendees and from sample textiles shown.
