ABOUT THE CAUSE:
The Seven Directions Education Centre is an Indigenous land based non-profit organization. They prioritize Women, Youth and Two-Spirit direction. The members of Seven Directions primarily rely on their own personal finances to maintain land based learning projects including maple tapping, sustainable farming, traditional arts, Indigenous medicines, sustainable building and traditional ceremony.

Now is the time, however, to ask for help from our community. Their project is under attack. They are being dragged through the legal system which is draining them not only financially but also emotionally, physically and spiritually. This assault is coming from a Non-Indigenous individual who they hosted at the Seven Direction’s centre for over three years and is now demanding financial payments from the project. She is attempting to sue us for over $20,000 which, if she succeeds, could force the sale of the land where they are situated. They have had no choice but to defend themselves and their legal fees and overhead costs have climbed.

They understand that this work is never easy. The system is not set up to support land and cultural reclamation by and for Indigenous Peoples. In asking for help from our community, they also want to open the way for further growth of our project--to share the maple waters, sacred seeds, and sustainable projects even further with even more people. They also want to add Indigenous language learning to their work. They are confident that this small blip in their process will not slow them down.

If you can help in any way, it would be much appreciated. Please do contact them with questions as well.
