About The Gender Gnomes
The Gender Gnomes are your friendly neighborhood Brooklyn-based indie-folk-jazz-pop duo. Separately, they are Rachel Weisbart, singer of songs and player of flutes, and Pat Oberstaedt, player of guitars and basses and mandolins and saxophones and trumpets and...a bunch of stuff. Together, they're songwriters and home-recorders and avid music lovers.
Rachel Weisbart is an Ossining native now living in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from OHS in 2015, she got her Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre from Oklahoma City University.
Patrick Oberstaedt is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and songwriter, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Cherry Hill, NJ, he studied music education and jazz bass at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Their debut EP, Introducing The Gender Gnomes was released in March 2020 (good timing, right?), followed in April 2020 by their second EP, Re-Introducing The Gender Gnomes. In June 2020, they participated in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters project, gaining insights on the craft of songwriting from master teachers Andrew Lippa, Craig Carnelia, Lindy Robbins, and Stephen Bray. They have since released two singles, Maybe the Moon, and The Flame. Their first full-length album is in the works and will be released this year.
