Indie Lens Pop-Up: "Newtown"

Make friends, share stories, and join the conversation. Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations. Featuring documentaries seen on the PBS series Independent Lens, Indie Lens Pop-Up draws local residents, leaders, and organizations together to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics to family and relationships.
This month we are screening Newtown - exploring the aftermath of the Sandy Hook mass shooting, where 20 first-graders and six educators were killed in 2012.

Keith Jacobus, Ph.D., began as superintendent of the South Washington County School District on July 1, 2012. Before joining District 833, Jacobus served as Assistant Superintendent of Leadership, Teaching and Learning, for the Osseo Area School District, Osseo, Minnesota. He has also been Director of Schools for the Douglas County School District in Castle Rock, Colorado. In addition, Jacobus served in various roles within the Lewis-Palmer School District in Monument, Colorado, including as the Executive Director of Learning Services, Executive Director of Personnel Services, and Principal of Lewis-Palmer High School. Jacobus’ degrees include a Ph.D. from the University of Denver, a Masters in Education from Lesley College and a B.S. from Colorado State University.
Commander John Lozoya is Senior Commander of the St Paul Police Department's Community Engagement Unit. He has also been commander of the department's Eastern District as well as a sergeant on the city's East Side. A graduate of Northwestern University, he also served six years in the United States Air Force Security Forces. Commander Lozoya, a fluent Spanish-language speaker, is a past president of the National Latino Peace Officers Association Minnesota Chapter past board member of Merrick Community Services and is currently a board member of Cesar Chavez Academia School in Saint Paul.
