Description
Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
for Healthcare Professionals
SUMMARY: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based approach to identifying patients who use alcohol and other drugs at risky levels, with the goal of reducing and preventing related health consequences, diseases, accidents, and injuries.
SBIRT is a unique skill in that it screens for all types of substance use, not just dependencies. This allows providers to intervene with those categorized as “risky” before there are serious consequences and before they become dependent. SBIRT is an effective tool for identifying risk levels related to substance use and for providing the appropriate intervention. It provides tools, counseling and coaching that healthcare providers and patients need to understand potential negative health consequences of substance abuse. All in all, SBIRT operates on the level of primary prevention for those who may be developing substance use disorders.
Program will begin promptly at 9 a.m. (EDT) and conclude at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) on each date. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. (EDT). Lunch is on your own. Arriving late and/or leaving early will result in the docking of CEUs for the time missed.
