INDIAN MACHINERY AND TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION (IMTEX) 2017
Being competitive is the rule of the game for the SMEs to survive amidst fierce competition. Technology and innovation are key to enhancing competitiveness of SMEs to cope up with the changing market trends. To be competitive, accrue more profits from products, increase production to cater to the growing population here and in the region, technologically advanced machinery is much needed in Sri Lanka. Technology and innovation at an affordable price is desired to infuse the required competitiveness to Sri Lankan SME industries.
Existing technologies in Sri Lankan industries are insufficient to produce value-added products with competitive price and to be internally productive. Although innovation is a focus area in the country, the practical climate for innovation is not ideal as funding sources are risk averse. Although situation must change, it will require a paradigm shift within the industry. Meanwhile, to remain competitive, the most effective way to bridge the technology gap of SMEs is to adapt the latest available technology from foreign technology providers through technology and knowledge transfer.
Rehabilitation of industries and furthering manufacturing competitiveness has long been identified as a prime concern in Sri Lanka. The focus is more towards augmenting SMEs than reviving sick large industries which is quite impossible. It is in this context, it is immensely important to technologically restructure, rehabilitate and upgrade SME industries in Sri Lanka.
Against this backdrop, International Society for Small and Medium Enterprises (ISSME), in association with National Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Sri Lanka, is going to organize the “Indian Machinery and Technology Exhibition – IMTEX 2017” at BMICH, Colombo, Sri Lanka during January 27-29, 2017 with the theme “Adopting new and innovative technologies for regional industrial growth”.
The main objective of the event is to technologically restructure, rehabilitate and upgrade SME industries on Sri Lanka with the help of state-of-the-art Indian technologies. The exhibition aims at improving the capabilities and competitiveness of Sri Lankan SMEs, particularly in industrial sector, in both domestic and international markets. In pursuit of the above objective, the IMTEX 2017 will introduce latest advanced technology and innovative industrial machinery; upgrade knowledge of Industrial professionals and create awareness of latest technologies among the industry; encourage mutually beneficial bilateral partnerships, joint-ventures and collaborations; and identify new product concepts and market opportunities.
