Independent Opera Company presents The Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev - the West Coast premiere of this fabulous opera! The Love for Three Oranges was first performed in Chicago in 1921, and yet this is the first time it will be performed in Los Angeles in its entirety. The opera is loosely based on a play by Carlo Gozzi, an 18th century Italian playwright. It has amazing music and a crazy plot! The opera starts with a philosophical discussion between proponents of Comedy and Tragedy, and then proceeds to the story about a melancholic Prince, sad King, both loyal and cunning Courtiers, the Good Magician Chelius, the Evil Fata Morgana, and Oranges that turn into thirsty princesses. The opera culminates in the ultimate victory of Good over Evil! Come to the show and see how it's done! Amazing singers, great staging, and fantastic costumes. The Love for Three Oranges will be performed with piano accompaniment by IOC Artistic Director Galina Barskaya conducting from the piano.
