and Build High-level Reading Success


Overview

 

ELA teachers in grades 3-8 are invited to attend a professional learning session focused on deepening their understanding of the Common Core State Standards and shifting pedagogy in English Language Arts. 

 

As students are becoming proficient in determining key ideas and citing text evidence, they are ready to take the next step in their comprehension work – analysis of author’s craft and structure. In this session teachers will learn practical, research-based strategies that are ready for immediate classroom implementation.

 

Over the course of this session, participants will:

 

  • Examine Craft and Structure CCLS reading standards with attention to vertical and horizontal coherence
  • Deepen knowledge of research-based instructional practices for analyzing craft and structure
  • Learn how to implement and adapt teaching strategies to support student achievement in reading

Audience

This session is open to ELA teachers in grades 3 – 8.
