Event description

Description

Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills Fleurieu & KI working with Push Adventures would like to invite you to a 3 hour workshop on Inclusive Tourism.

Networking lunch from 12.30pm, workshop 1-4pm.

This workshop will provide you with the knowledge and skills to welcome people with a wide range of physical abilities. Things we will cover:

  • Who benefits when tourism is inclusive?
  • Considerations for the customer journey
  • First impressions
  • You don’t need to be an expert in disabilities
  • Becoming more inclusive doesn’t mean breaking the bank
  • Case studies
  • Creating a visitor access guide

Inclusive Tourism is one of the fastest growing market segments across the industry. 1 in 5 Australians live with some sort of disability and there are around 3.5 million people in Australia aged over 65! When tourism is inclusive just about everybody benefits, and you must consider that a customer with access needs rarely travels alone, they travel with family and friends too!

Everybody loves to travel. It provides an opportunity to experience new things, learn about the world and grow as an individual. People with access needs can struggle to find suitable services, facilities, and experiences that they can participate in. There are often barriers to inclusion that exist within the physical environment, customer service and provision of information. This can make travelling difficult. Planning can be time-consuming, common feelings of anxiety around the unknown are heightened, and the travel journey can be over before it has even begun!

Understanding and awareness around disability is often limited unless it comes from personal experience. People with disabilities are simply members of the community, so when we talk about inclusive tourism, we're talking with all people in mind. Giving consideration to all travellers can be a huge benefit to your staff, it creates confidence in your employees in welcoming a wide range of people, fostering customer service excellence and welcoming more people through your doors!

Remember, not only are travellers with access needs loyal, but their recommendations spread far and wide
