Proud 2 Play and Inner Eastern Local Learning Employment Network (IELLEN) are partnering to host a breakfast forum highlighting the experiences of LBGTQI young people in school participating in physical education.

Forum organisers, Proud2Play CEO James Lolicato and IELLEN CEO Andrew Neophytou are keen to attract physical education teachers, school well-being staff, and sporting and State Governmentrepresentatives to the breakfast on September 20 at Functions on Chapel. The forum will put a spotlight on the issues young people from the LGBTQI communities face and how to implement inclusive school practice

Speakers and Topics Include:

Master of Ceremonies: James Lolicato - Proud 2 Play inc -
James Lolicato is one of the Co-Founders of Proud 2 Play and has spent the last decade facilitating and convening local LGBTI youth groups throughout Victoria. One of James’ drive to create Proud 2 Play was due to personal experiences, particularly in PE.


Host of Ceremonies: Andrew Neophytou - IELLEN -
Andrew Neophytou has been CEO of the IELLEN since June 2015, and with the organisation since 2011. During this time he has facilitated or led numerous partnerships, projects and initiatives - with education providers, not for profits, LGAs, and industry. Among his achievements are as Chair of the “Colour of Youth” Committee which in 2014 put together a major Conference devoted to issues for young SSAGD people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities. In that year Andrew also chaired another youth-focused SSAGD network which organised a forum, "Same sex attracted and gender diverse young people – inclusive practice, best practice".

Dr. Caroline Symons
- Victoria University/ Author/ Researcher
Associate Professor Caroline Symons is an honorary professor in sport at VU and is an authority in the area of gender, sexuality and sport studies. She is also the principal investigator in the first study of the sporting and physical education experiences of same-sex attracted and gender diverse young people in Australia.


Ryan Storr - Proud 2 Play inc/ Victoria University
Ryan Storr is one of the Co-Founders of Proud 2 Play and is currently completing his PhD at Victoria University. Ryan’s PhD is exploring how volunteers within community sports clubs experience and manage diversity.


Julian Alban - Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission - 'Trans and gender diverse inclusion in sport- Equal opportunities act practice guidelines'

Karyn Walker - Parents of Gender Diverse Children - ' The Parental Role in sports inclusion'
Karen Walker is one of the founders of Parents of Gender Diverse Children, a group that exists to provide peer support for those who are parenting trans and gender diverse children of any age. PGDC is the largest organisation in Australia dedicated to supporting families with trans and gender diverse children providing parents the support to allow their children to live authentically.


Rory Blundell - Minus 18/ Drummond St -
Rory Blundell is a Stand Out Coordinator at Minus18 and was involved in developing the ‘You’re Accepted’ website, a tool to help LGBTQI+ youth come out anonymously over social media. Rory is also a Bachelor of Arts student at Melbourne University and is involved with the Melbourne Dragons Martial Arts club.
