Refugees and our communities. Challenges and current research.

About this Event

How can we evaluate the meaningful integration of refugees into our communities? Join us as we welcome Dr. Michaela Hynie, Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University in Toronto, Canada, to discuss her ongoing 5-year longitudinal study about Syrian refugee integration in Canada and the challenges of conducting ethical research among resettled refugee communities.

Dr. Hynie’s talk is part of a discussion series by ODU’s Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center to bring together scholars, artists, and practitioners with varied life experiences and from different disciplines to discuss the ways in which our many viewpoints can foster more inclusive research perspectives with greater impact to our communities. This talk will present a community-based research project, but also engage in dialogue about effective and ethical ways to conduct research.

Light refreshments will be provided.
