Event description

Description

International schools celebrate diversity, but how do schools create an inclusive culture that ensures all students can access learning and experience success? This interactive workshop enables participants to explore the nature of the needs of SEN students and learn ways to create an inclusive culture that supports learning for SEN students by focusing on best practice for all learners. Using case studies and other interactive strategies, participants will have the opportunity to consider students’ needs and identify strategies that support student success within an inclusive culture. Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on their own practice and make connections to the ways in which best practice ensures learning for SEN students. Participants will leave tools to take back to their schools.

Participants will:

● Understand the culture of inclusion for SEN students and the broad connections between inclusive practices and international education.

● Explore the nature of the needs of SEN students commonly experienced in international schools.

● Extend knowledge and skills in providing curriculum access and support for SEN students, focusing on best practice for all learners.

● Connect inclusive classroom practices with best practice to support student success including: inquiry learning, differentiation, student engagement, questioning, formative assessment, feedback, visible thinking strategies, reflection and collaborative learning.

● Reflect upon SEN/Inclusion policies within participants’ current educational settings and outline areas for change.

Audience:

This workshop is aimed at both regular and special educators and leaders at all divisions with a special interest in inclusive practices for students with Special Educational Needs.
