Event description

Description

On behalf of the energy institute leadership at Carnegie Mellon University (Jay Whitacre and Anna J. Siefken), the Colorado School of Mines (Morgan Bazilian), and Rice University (Ken Medlock), you and one (1) colleague from your Institution are cordially invited to the inaugural University Energy Institute Leadership Summit taking place in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from Wednesday, September 25 until Thursday, September 26, 2019. This is a private, invitation-only event.

As we look toward the future of energy and the environment in the United States, it is crucial to collectively create a channel for open communication of the knowledge and innovation coming from our universities and their leadership.

The purpose of this workshop is to explore the synergistic opportunities that are possible with the organization of a national consortium. Both the research and operational leadership at each institute will discuss the role of an organizational framework to advance research and education, funding pursuits, decarbonization strategies, public policy and advocacy, innovation, and partnerships. We will focus on the benefits and challenges of collaboration and explore possible structures. Following the event, a report on recommendations for future development will be published. The Summit is funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and ARPA-E.
