Who should attend?

The inaugural UAS RODEO will focus on building proficiency and skills needed for the Public Safety UAS Mission. From skilled pilots to novices, non-pilots and decision makers, there will be something for everyone to include friendly competitions on Day 2 to award the best teams/pilots/programs. -- All are encouraged to attend. Don't yet have a program? Come and learn from those who do. Personally View and see the capabilities of various airframes, talk to the pilots and learn what may or may not work for you! This event focuses on skill proficiency, team building, camaraderie, and information sharing for those looking to build and/or enhance their UAS programs and capabilities.

Do I need a Part 107 Certificate to attend? Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You do not need a Part 107 Certificate to attend. However, you do need one to fly in this event. Attendees must be 18 years or older to attend.

What do I need to do to participate as a flyer?

You will need to register as "Part 107 Pilot - Flying", provide proof of a current Part 107 certificate, aircraft must be registered IAW Part 107, register your equipment (type, registration number, payload), and provide your pilot background information such as number of hours, special skills, any waivers held, etc. Proof of insurance unless you are representing a government agency. Once you register, our RODEO officials will contact you directly to gather needed information and provide additional course and competition information

I'm a low time UAS pilot, can I still fly?

Yes, as long as you and your system meet Part 107 requirements. We have planned activities to match various skill levels. New to flying UAS? The UAS Rodeo will have challenges that will help you improve your basic flight skills. There will be experienced instructors that will help you understand how to fly and successfully accomplish that task. You will walk away with a better understanding of how maneuver your air vehicle to gather the data requested. These skills will be judged in the novice category.

So if you're just starting out or a seasoned operator, we will have something for every level.

I'm a high time UAS pilot, what's in it for me?

For the experienced UAS operators, the UAS RODEO will focus on testing your flight skills in a competitive way with other public safety operators. Courses are customized toward public safety scenarios and judged on time, accuracy, or both. Under real world conditions, there are situations when time is critical, however obtaining complete and accurate information can be just as important.

In addition to testing or improving your flight skills, you will be able to recreate these scenarios back at your agency where you can continue improving your skills for next year’s rodeo.

My agency doesn't have a UAS program yet, what can I expect to learn?

Don't yet have a program? Come and learn from those who do. This event focuses on skill proficiency, team building, camaraderie, and information sharing for those looking to build and/or enhance their UAS programs and capabilities.

What can I bring into the event?

If you are pre-qualified to participate as a pilot, you are required to bring your UAS equipment and any items needed to support your flight. It is strongly recommended that you fly with prop guards. Food will be provided, however you are welcome to bring what you need.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

All attendees must be registered to attend. Please contact us directly if you need to change your ticket.
