Title: Monitoring Microservices in Real Real-Time

Speaker: Brian Ashburn, Senior Solutions Engineer at SignalFx

Abstract: Microservices have and are taking the world by storm. As our architectures get more distributed, more scalable, and more ephemeral, we need to reevaluate how we monitor and track the health of these services. Traditional monitoring does not suffice for these types of environments. Increased automation requires lightning fast reaction times and even the ability to predict where things are headed. We will discuss how SignalFx can ingest the scale of metrics that come from microservices in Kubernetes and Cloud-Native environments and still be able to react in mere seconds to trigger automation and remediation. We will demonstrate the power that real-time analytics brings to determining the health of these microservices and even predicting when things are going wrong before they hit failure. We will also show how distributed tracing can enhance the metrics and analytics for these systems.

Bio: Brian has been at SignalFx since May 2018. He had been at Red Hat for 8 and 1/2 years prior as a Middleware Solutions Architect focusing on messaging, integration, and OpenShift/Kubernetes/Containers. He was ready to get into the startup world, and he was impressed with the leadership team, the amazing architecture, and the unique place that they fit in the marketplace. Prior to Red Hat, He was a software developer/architect in development shops around Atlanta, including Incomm, Autotrader.com, and McKesson for 12+ years. He's primarily been a Java developer, but he loves being a true polyglot writing in Java, Scala, Groovy, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and any other cool language he can get his hands on. When he's not working, his hobbies include game development, getting out in the woods, driving his old Jeep, and spending time with his wife and three daughters.

Details to be announce soon! Stay tuned!
