Event description
iNaturalist and eBird course, plus a mini BioBlitz at our research site in Fillmore!

About this event

If you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to participate in community science, the iNaturalist and eBird apps are two popular platforms for recording your observations. Do you already have one of these apps, but don't feel like you know how to use it? Would you like an introduction to either one (or both!) to get started?

Please join WFVZ Science Education Coordinator Paul Grindrod and bird aficionado and application expert Teodelina Martelli for this class. For beginner, novice, fledgling users, we will cover all of the basics, including setting up an account, how to record observations, tips for better posts, and local/regional/national projects where your data may be used.

The class meets virtually, via Zoom, Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, with an optional field trip to our research site on the Santa Clara River near Fillmore the following Saturday, November 6 (rain date is November 13) from 8:00am to 12 noon.

The field trip will be a mini BioBlitz for hands on field experience! We will find and identify as many plants, animals, and other organisms as possible in the allotted time all while practicing our new skills. It is an opportunity to take a snapshot of the biodiversity, or variety of life, in a specific place.

For the BioBlitz bring binoculars, cell phone, iPad, or camera for making/uploading observations. Field trip limited to 25 participants; registration is required.

Member costs are $30 for the virtual class, or $55 for both sessions.

Non-member cost is $40.00 for the virtual class, or $75 for both sessions.
