Our Moot Court Society is pleased to announce the Inaugural Stephanie Aleong Intramural Moot Court Competition.
The Society is reestablishing its historicaltradition of an intramural competition on campus, after being inactive since 2009. The purpose of this competition is to give all Moot Court members the opportunity to continue to develop their advocacy skills. This competition will be held on Saturday,February 4, 2017 at the Shepard Broad College of Law.
Our Moot Court Society has named this competition in recognition of Professor Stephanie Aleong. As many of you know, Professor Aleong was both a Moot Court enthusiast, and also a crusader against the horrific crime of counterfeiting drugs. Due to her memorable actions on campus, NSU's College of Pharmacy honors her with an annual award in her name to the person or organization that has done the most to protect patient safety. Thus, it is only right that our Moot Court Society also honors one of our past avid supporters.
Professor Aleong began her involvement with the Moot Court Society when she was a law student. Upon beginning her educational career as a law professor at NSU, Professor Aleong joined Professor Brown asthe Society's co-advisor; she would later recruit our current advisor, Professor Khan to head our team. Professor Aleong was an inspiring coach, leader, and educator. Even while hospitalized and receiving treatment, her focus was on her team and their success. Unfortunately, while co-coaching the ABA NAAC team, Professor Aleong’s cancer, which had been in remission, returned and caused her tragic and untimely death. Beautiful tributes to her dedication to our law school can be found in Volume 34 of the Nova Law Review.
What she contributed to the Moot Court organization and our students is immeasurable. We ask that you please join our Moot Court Society in shaping future advocate's oral skills by benching in the Inaugural Aleong Intramural Moot Court Competition by reserving your availiability through this RSVP.
