Description

Developing Mastery in the SEN context at KS1, KS2 and KS3.

This is aimed at SENCOs, subject leaders and teachers of Mathematics

Teachers attending the workgroup will:

  • Develop teachers knowledge and understanding of the early stages of learning in maths
  • Consider what an effective mastery approach to teaching, learning and assessment of mathematics for pupils with SEN looks like
  • Develop the use of manipulatives and concrete modelling for SEN students
  • Use action research in teaching for mastery in the SEN context
  • Engage with parents to support their confidence and skills in supporting their child’s learning in maths at home.

Dates and venue:

  • Monday 5th February 2018 full day (9.30am to 3.30pm)

  • Wednesday 14th March 2018 morning (9.30am to 12.30pm)

  • Monday 30th April 2018 morning (9.30am to 12.30pm)

  • Wednesday 27th June 2018 morning (9.30am to 12.30pm)

  • Venue is Denbigh School

The launch day on Monday 5th February will look in detail at the issues, research and strategies for teaching, learning and assessment of maths, with particular reference to those pupils with learning difficulties in this area

The following 3 meetings will build and develop, through formative, iterative cycles of design and improvement and will involve participants looking at the shared development of effective approaches to teaching, learning and formative assessment of mathematics for SEN pupils.
