Event description
The Collegium Institute and Penn Christian Legal Society welcome you to a special lunch conversation with Lord David Alton.

About this Event

Lord David Alton, MP served in the British Parliament for 40 years— as a member of both the House of Commons and House of Lords, where he sits as an Independent Crossbench Life Peer. In 1972, while still a student, he was elected to the Liverpool City Council as the youngest city councilor in Britain. In 1979, he became the youngest member of the House of Commons. Lord Alton also has been appointed to two Roman Catholic orders of chivalry.

On September 19th at 12:00pm, Lord Alton will share his experience as a person of faith in an increasingly secularized sector of public service, specifically addressing his work on the political and legal issues of life and religious liberty both in the UK and globally.

In his service as a Member of Parliament, he has advocated throughout the world for those who are persecuted for their faith in an era characterized variously by fundamentalist religious ferment and aggressive secularity. Lord Alton is also devoted to preserving the memory and heritage of marginalized religious communities, especially the extraordinary legacies of the Catholic martyrs in his own country, whose stories — together with an understanding of human nature — may shed light on the prospects for religion and public service in the future.

Co-sponsored by Penn Christian Legal Society.
