Description

All are welcome at this information session on 2019 Boston Harbor Artist Residency opportunities, featuring live performance of "In the Harbor, Freedom Sings" by 2018 resident artist Kera Washington.

ABOUT [RE]CREATION ARTIST RESIDENCIES

This year, Boston Harbor Now, in partnership with the National Park Service and the Department of conservation and recreation, will welcome three artists to carry out residencies on the harbor: one on the Boston Harborwalk, and two in the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park.

Artists of all mediums – including writers, photographers, new media artists, choreographers, filmmakers, architects, musicians, as well as collaborative groups – are encouraged to attend the info session and apply for the residencies.

ABOUT KERA WASHINGTON

Join a special evening of music and reflection from musician Kera Washington, 2018 Artist in Residence on the Boston Harbor Islands. This past summer Washington created music metaphorically tracing the footprints of African and Native (Indigenous) Americans who walked on and in the Boston Harbor Islands. Washington composed songs and rhythms inspired by music that was written by early activists and abolitionists during and/or about pre-Emancipation Boston-based struggles for freedom. Washington and friends will perform a number of these songs.

Evening will begin with a 45-minute performance of "In the Harbor, Freedom Sings," followed by information and Q&A about the Boston Harbor Artist in Residency Program.
