Without obvious signs, anxiety can be difficult to detect...
However, anxiety can greatly affect academic performance.

- Anxiety impacts a student’s working memory, making it difficult to learn and retain information.
- Anxiety makes thought processing less efficient and often stops students from asking for help.
- Anxiety can also result in both homework and school avoidance.

So how can we help when anxiety interferes with our children's education?

In our first Lunch and Learn of the 2019-20 school year, Dr. Jonathan Dalton and Dr. Monique Reynolds, licensed clinical psychologists with the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change will present:

“When Anxiety Affects Education"

Drs. Dalton and Reynolds will focus on specific strategies that parents can use at home to assist with school-based anxiety.

In addition, they will discuss:

- the mechanisms through which anxiety interferes with learning
- the hidden roll of avoidance in school-based anxiety (e.g. procrastination, not asking q’s in class, etc.)
- how we can accommodate anxiety with/or enabling avoidance, including how we can work with the school

We are looking forward to seeing everyone back for a great school year!
