—————

Long before “Yes, and…” there was “Give and Take” and “Follow the Follower”:

What we call improv today was born in the 1930s in Chicago at Neva Boyd’s Settlement House and later, the WPA Recreational Project, led by Viola Spolin. Starting in the 1970’s, Augusto Boal brought his transformative Theatre of the Oppressed work to his Brazilian homeland, Europe, and beyond…effectively mobilizing grassroots cultural activism. The goal of this workshop is to build on this classic foundation – to learn games, activate our bodies and our senses, and create experiences of ensemble play built on trust and complete openness.

This two day, multi-level workshop is designed for both the complete beginner and the seasoned improvisor / actor. With over 30 years of combined improv and acting experience, David and Carrie will channel their beginners’ mindset and guide players through discoveries as both individuals and as a group using Viola Spolin and Augusto Boal games and activities using active sidecoaching. As children, we all played games, allowing our imaginations and impulses to be let loose in the physical world. Let’s play together!
