In Our Own Words - watch the short film ‘Climate Criminals’ and hear stories from the frontline climate activists behind the controversial headlines
A film screening and story sharing event, facilitated by CHANGE Festival as part of the Right Here, Right Now summit.
Join us at the Pitt Rivers Museum Climate Justice Late Night, for a thought-provoking and deeply personal exploration of why people take radical direct action to seek climate justice. Opening with a screening of short film ‘Climate Criminals’, filmmakers Sophie Austin and Becky Burchell of CHANGE Festival will be joined by some of the frontline activists featured in the film, who undertook controversial actions and faced persecution, fines and imprisonment.
We will hear about the motivations, the passion, the challenges and regrets that climate activists grapple with as they decide to put their lives and their futures on the line for the climate, and ultimately, for love. How have their family, friends, employers, educational institutions and the courts of law responded to these activists and how has this impacted their lives?
While reports of climate activism in the press are often divisive, negative and limiting, this event will recognise the importance of meeting the real people behind the headlines. This story- sharing will invite us all to remember our shared humanity, creating a safe and respectful space where deeply held values and feelings can be explored without judgement. We invite you to come with open minds, open hearts, and a willingness to engage in deep listening.
Following the film and activists sharing, we will have some time to remain in the space together to continue the conversation with the audience.
